It's been a while since I have written, but I've been surviving...barely. It's summertime now, so I am spending a lot of time in puppy jail (locking myself in!!). I hate to complain, but the boys are home all the time, and I am just all off my schedule. Too noisy for my regular naps. Mom never has time to nuggle like she used to being an event planner all the time. Dad has been trying to step up and fill in, but sometimes a girl just needs a little peace and quiet! Ugh! This is the squeeze lately...

Dear Diary,

Earlier this month, my people took me on vacation with them to the wonderful Sheraton Safari in Orlando, Florida.

It was a wonderful weekend!

Friday, my people were out and about, which was fine with me. I laid around and recovered from the 10 hour drive in Mom's lap. Then...

We hung out all day Saturday at the pool. The servers brought me water and turkey, and even though it's January, the weather was beautiful. I laid on the lounger most of the day and got all kinds of love and attention. Very good times.

I highly recommend the Sheraton Safari. Everyone was accomodating, and I made some cool new friends in the form of a pouncy eared Basset hound and a gruff grampy Shnauzer.

Wow! I cannot believe my mom has not helped me write to you in such a long time. Now it's 2011! Lets see, Happy birthday! Happy Halloween! Happy Thanksgiving! Merry Christmas! and Happy New Year! Mom and I have started watch Martha Stewart from time to time. I love the snuggle time, of course. Martha's babies are sweet too. I guess they would be like puppy American royalty since mom thinks Martha is like the queen of domestication.

Merry Christmas!!
Niffy is still in the house. Just haven't written in so long because, well, I require Mom's help, and she said she has been needing to do less blogging about doing stuff and more actually doing stuff.

Anyway, fall has been extremely busy. The boys signed up for way way too many activities.

But, we are hoping to hibernate a little this winter, and play a lot of Wii (our Christmas gift), so mom will probably help me more. But, just in case, Happy New Year!! I will see you there!

On Saturday, we said goodbye to a very special friend, Tristan, who taught me so much about loyalty. Tristan, a terrior mix adopted from the pound in Cullman, AL was aproximately 11 years old. He suffered from liver cancer, bronchitis, and a stomach disorder, but remained upbeat, determined, and ever loyal to his master and my precious Granna. Tristan will be remembered for so much. His many tricks, like jump and dead-dog, that funny bark when the door bell rang, and the games he played with Cozy the Cat will forever keep us smiling. Tristan was one spoiled pooch and one great companion, and I know he will bring many smiles to all those other pups at the Rainbow Bridge. Say hello to Reagie-Dog for us, and we will see you one day very soon.

Congratulations Dutchess!

Dutchess gave birth to her pups a week ago, but I am just now getting to the photos. She did an absolutely phenomenal job! We woke up Tuesday morning, she had a rather eventful potty break (she must have tinkled 15 times), and then the panting began. I was sitting at the computer waiting when I looked over and saw the first puppy (about 18 minutes after labor began). She did a great job with clean up and everything, and almost immediately Zaffle (we are affectionately calling him) began nursing. 20 minutes later, Dutchess stood and out popped Kiki. Same deal. The brothers are precious and the whole ordeal was textbook. They grow a little everyday and are actually pretty chubby little guys. They are both completely healthy! Dutch is an excellent mommy, and I hope she can have many more litters.

Hey ya'll! Southern girl Meredith here. Tonight was family movie night at home and we watched 'Beverly Hills Chihuahua'. The movie was so cute, but for barking out loud, Montezuma was such a hottie! Check this cutie out! He really made the whole movie. And it's so strange for me. I never thought I would go for the dark, Latino type, but look how cute he is!!! Have me wishin I wasn't fixed....

They say I am a really good swimmer. "Like a fish," Mom said, but it was only because I was swimming for my life! I couldn't wait to get out, shake off, and never do that again!

So, I have a new nickname...again. Granted, my humans are nick-name sort of people. They have about 5,000 for everyone they know. I think it has something to do with the names 'the Boys' come up with or say things (like Z couldn't say Meredith...so he said Mereniff). My newest one is Niffy, which is cute I guess, for a nickname, but sometimes I just get confused. ANywho...I wrote a little song to tell everyone how I feel about this crazy nickname issue...Wrote a song about it...Wanna hear it...Here it go...

Well, probably won't hear it on the radio anytime soon (or ever), but I was surprised the other day when I heard that someone had stolen my song and changed the lyrics just a bit. I think they are called like TingTing, which sounds like something I do when I go out, but they have actually gotten the thing on the radio, which, I guess, is the closest I will ever come. Anyway... This is Duchess (loving on Granna) whose human is Nana, Moms grandmother. And she is totally a fuzzy face. So cute. Duchess' mom, Zoe, was bred with a wee Yorkie Papa pup, and had these great little pups a while back. Actually, they are about 9 months old now.
Unfortunately, Nana has just been diagnosed with Alzheimers, and comes in and out of her self. Duchess and Billy Bob (Duchess' brother Nana also kept), and Zoe are Nana's only companionship during the week. There are 2 things you need to know about this situation that were forewarned: 1. Nana, you should not keep Billy Bob! I know someone who wants to buy him and you need the money, and 2. Nana, Duchess is in heat. You have to keep them separated!! Although Nana promised things would be okay, and I know the best intentions were out there (and Granna and Mom did everything they could do short of ripping the little pup from Nana's arms), you can probably guess what has occurred. So the story goes...She was keeping a diaper on Duchess, had to go pay her water bill, came back, and he had stripped her naked!!!
Duchess is due any day now, and we are praying the puppies (and Fuzzy Face) will be okay. Please join us in our efforts as Granna and Mom attempt to help Nana more and more every day (although she lives an hour away) and deal with the Alzheimers beast and the tragedy of it all, and what(whom)ever new may come along! I love going up to Hanceville to see my friends, but hate to see all the tears.
Granna has Duchess now, and hopefully everyone will be okay. I will more than likely be updating you in just a week or less. Til then... -meredith

We said goodbye to big brother on Monday, and I'm really gonna miss that big guy. We had lots of fun. From that time when I thought he was going to eat me to taking turns marking our territory everywhere, we kept it real. Big Dog showed me the ropes around the old home place, and now he's left me as head pooch. I will carry on strongly brother. Full obituary here.

We were just minding our own business one day, when Dad brings it home. He almost hit it in the road. I wish he had. This thing, I am convinced, was here for no good reason, and I had to do something to get rid of it. I gave it my loudest barks and growls. I scratched and pawed at it, all to no avail. I thought I would get a little help from my people, but Mom just pulled out here camera and started laughing and taking picture. Seriously! I was simply appalled at the entertainment had by my people at the expense of myself and THIS INTURDER.

So, here are some famous Meredith's, which I clearly feel like I resemble, however...they have nothing to do with how I got my name. Mom told me the story, wanna hear it, here it go...

So, mom has 3 boys, but dreamed of having a little girl. Enters ME! So, I am the daughter and she always dreamed of naming her human daughter Merritt. Loves that name. Always have. Always will. No one steal it just in case. Since Meredith is very close to Merritt (but not exact, there again, just in case) and since my hair is the same color as a Meredith my mom went to school with, Meredith is my name. It's close enough to Merritt to scratch that itch, but not too close that she couldn't use that in the future if she needed to. :) So, that's the story of how I got my name. Toodles, meredith.

Mom didn't feel well today, so she and little Z showed me the movie 'Lady and the Tramp'. It was great! I loved it. The Tramp is a hottie and all. I just have one question: Where can I go where the puppies with collars roam free like that? I mean, Lady basically woke up every morning, did her newspaper chores, ate her coffee and donut, and then she, Jock, and Trusty had free reign of their little Mayberry neighborhood. I haven't lived more than 2 years, but something about that philosophy feels nostalgic and good.
The boys sometimes let me run out of the house, and all I want to do is go visit the neighbors, but Mom like freaks out and yells and I have to come back. She says the crusty old lady next door will call the cops on us or something. Ridiculous! Who's with me on that? Anyway, just venting today. love, m

Spending the Day in Puppy Jail

Do you ever just have one of those days where you don't feel like getting out of puppy jail? I am really beginning to LOVE my puppy jail and every time Mom says "Go get in Puppy Jail!" I am happy to run straight there. But yesterday was rainy, and I just wanted to stay in bed all day. So I did. And that's okay, Mom says. Okay, pups, so is it just me or is the best food in the world eggs?? I like chicken, but eggs is where it's at. Mom is the Egg LAdy, and I love that. Every time the boys get eggs for breakfast, I get the left overs, and LOVE love LOVE it! This is me eating your basic puppy chow, which I am not a big fan of, but it's better than nothin. Mom has finally started letting me go everywhere with her again. Before she got her car detailed, that's just how it was. And then she got that silly car cleaned. I can't help it that I shed a little hair! It's not that bad. Besides that, I'm a great companion. Never any trouble. Love the feel of the vibrations in the floorboard. Love to look around every now and then. Never get sick. So...thankfully...she's gotten over it again. I get to come with! Taking the boys to school...picking the boys up...any quick erands as long as it's not the grocery store or mom's not taking food somewhere. I think Saturday she is going to let me come yard saling with her. I am SO excited!! Although, I'm still a little shy around people... I promised I was going to be a good girl. And I plan to be; as long as no old man tries to grab me or step on me or anything.
My favorite place to sit is the car seat. Z's car seat. It's so perfect and cushy. Even when he's in it, it's not so bad cause he's real nice. Life is good! I'm out. -m

I can't help it that I would rather cuddle than eat or sleep or play or do anything else in the entire world. Mom says Cavaliers are known for being especially affectionate, and I guess she's right. So, my humans go camping all the time, right? Well, this time they thought I was finally ready to come with. And let me tell you. I have never had so much fun in my life. It was some majorly exciting stuff. We got all kinds of exercise and slept outside...er, I slept at the bottoms of Mom's sleeping bag, but whatever...and we grilled steak and I got all the good pieces...and I got to cuddle (my favorite thing) beside a fire. Okay, so a few weeks ago, I met snow for the first time. It was cold but mom was nice and held me most of the time. Yeah, I didn't really know what to think about it. I'm not a big fan of water. Mom gives me a bath every week or so and I run and hide every time. I always know what's coming. In fact, today was bath day. Ruck! Plus Mom got some new pooch shampoo and I'm not a big fan. I hope she gets me some designer doggy suds. Like this:

But back to the snow. I tried to lick it. That was good. Like the water in my bowl, except colder and somehow, with some texture. Oh! Big brother was halarious.
